Notes about the German versions of this volume:
1st edition 1931 as a private manuscript. Published as a book 1939. 3rd revised and expanded edition 1969, reprinted 1986. 3rd edition adds three lectures. The discovery of additional sets of notes allowed the 1969 edition to correct a number of errors and ambiguities. However it remains evident that the reconstruction still contains defects and omissions. However, the contents were deemed sufficiently important that Marie Steiner decided to publish it anyway.
